Featured in 1843 by The Economist: “The Strange Disappearance of Japan’s Animators”

NAFCA was featured in 1843, a long-form publication from The Economist. The article, titled “The Strange Disappearance of Japan’s Animators,” examines the global growth of anime and the labour crisis facing Japan’s animation production sector.

Ayano Fukumiya, Secretary General of NAFCA, and Masuo Ueda, Advisor to NAFCA, provided comments for the article. Fukumiya spoke about the urgent need to protect the future of Japanese hand-drawn anime, while Ueda commented on the historical shift from salaried in-house production systems to contract-based labour after the bankruptcy of Mushi Production.
